What is the difference between Division 08 and Division 28?
Division 08 covers the openings themselves, which means doors, frames, and the hardware fitted to them. Division 28 covers electronic safety and security, which is where access control, credential readers, and the head-end system live.
Where they meet
The opening is the seam.
The two divisions meet at the opening, and that is where projects lose time. An electrified lock sits in Division 08. The reader beside it and the system behind it sit in Division 28. When the two specifications are written without reference to each other, the opening arrives with hardware that cannot do what the security scope assumed.
ASC writes the Division 08 specification and coordinates it against the Division 28 scope, so the electrified function, the power supply, the monitoring, and the fail-safe or fail-secure behaviour all agree before anything is ordered.
