When should a hardware consultant join the project?
Design development is the most useful entry point, once a draft door schedule exists and before construction documents go out. Joining at that stage costs less than correcting a specification during submittal review, and far less than changing hardware after the openings are installed.
Timing
Early is cheaper than correct-later.
Hardware decisions look small on a drawing and get expensive late. Function, fire rating, egress behaviour, and access control interface all have to agree with each other, and each one touches a different trade. Settling them while the drawings are still moving is cheaper than settling them on site.
ASC also picks up projects already in construction documents, in submittal review, or in trouble after bid. Coming in late is a normal request and the desk handles it. The work is simply narrower, because fewer decisions are still open.
